to remain vigilant.
"Lower Holm Wyckham Cottage"
- 19 Croft Bank, under threat.
Can West Malvern afford
to loose a beautiful
vista?

South-side and rear elevation. A building at
its side would hide the south-side elevation
from view.

This
streetscape could
be lost for ever. West Malvern,
motorists and hikers could lose something very special if a building
were placed at the side of this cottage.
It can just be made out that the southern one-car parking
space is in use. The other (northern) parking space is small
and
cannot be widened; there is no
redundant parking space as has been claimed. Another building on this site would leave
19 Croft Bank with very limited
off-road parking.
An application
which was lodged to have this property listed has not
passed all criteria.
However the significant concluding
comment
is printed below: verbatim. Perhaps applicants
and planning assessors should bear this in mind.
CONCLUSION
Whilst it is acknowledged that No. 19 Croft Bank makes a
strong contribution to the West Malvern's street scene
and
has local interest for its association with Lady Howard de
Walden, it does, however, not meet the criteria for
designation in a national context.

Champions! On Saturday the First XI won comfortably against bottom
placed Pershore to clinch the Division 6 championship. Put into bat
on a damppitch Pershore struggled to 169 for 4 from 45 overs. Pete
O'Connell's first 6 overs cost a mere 4 runs and Rowan Dakin passed
the 30 wicket mark with three for 35 but Glenn Collins' 90 not out
and Jon Herod's 46 ensured an easy victory by 9 wickets to send the
corks popping.
This was a remarkable achievement given an unconvincing start to the
season, but Pete rallied his charges to produce an incredible run of
nine wins in their last 12 games.
The 2nd XI travelled to Hartlebury to take on Stourport in the
quarter-final of the WCL plate. Having been set 288 we battled
bravely and despite Bill Wood, Robin Lloyd and Joe Bird all getting
into the 40s we finished 60 runs short. It was an encouring end to
the season by Jeff's team, victories in the final two league matches
reward for perseverance and improvement.
Sunday's trip to Fladbury saw Jon Herod's winning run as skipper
continue. Useful runs by Glenn, Jon, Robin, Joe and KG helped us set
a target of 200 on a damp wicket. Success in the opening spell by
TVS and Matt Gammon was then thwarted by a patient stand by
Fladbury's middle order that threatened to turn the game. The
introduction of Robin Lloyd, son Will and then Joe Bird into the
attack eased fears of a home win as they took six wickets in quick
succession before TVS wrapped up proceedings giving us a 69 run
victory.
The eagerly awaited return of Willoughby Waterleys on Monday led to
disappointment on the field but a great evening of song and laughter
in Brewers. We could only muster 140 on a soft pitch which was
easily overhauled by our visitors for the loss of three wickets.
